The Water Sonata

In the aftermath of a heavy rain, the night air calm and damp with the scent of the rainy season at hand, commuters make there way along infinite pathways tailored to their own particular purpose . From beneath the walkways appears a glissando of tranquility as an endless drone of fluidity ascends to the ears.

大雨の直後、露の香りで湿った、静かな夜気の中、
通勤者がそれぞれの目的に合った無限の道を前進していく。
静けさのグリッサンドが歩道の下から現れ、

終わりのない流動性の単調音が耳に登ってくる。

I borrowed the Korg DS-10 from my friend Hiroshi and made this track. The DS-10 is a game (synthesizer) for the Nintendo DS that is based on Korg's MS-10 analog synthesizer released in 1978.　Despite being a "game", the DS-10 is actually quite a powerful tool. More information on the DS-10

The Bubbling Brook

Climbing the stairs of the station, the train that until just a moment ago was the carriage of your journey, trails off into the beyond with a decaying ruckus as it departs. Just before you reach the turnstyles, the subtle sound of flowing water fades into the mix.

The bubbling brook you imagine is actually a recording playing from a speaker unit on the wall. The purpose of its "pseudo-natural" sound being to disguise the "natural" sounds emiting from the area beyond the wall it is bolted to; the bathroom.

ついさっきまで乗っていた電車が出発し、減衰する騒動でかなたに消えていきながら、駅の階段を登って行く。改札口に着く直前、流れる水のかすかな音が現れてくる。

実は、想像するブクブク流れる小川が、壁に付いているスピーカーから流れる録音された音です。この「偽自然」な音の目的というのは、壁の向こうにあるトイレから流れる「自然」な音を隠すためである。
